Sssshhhh The Baby Is Sleeping
This has been 9 months in the making and we had to make a big decision to get her to sleep through. We finally bite the bullet and tried controlled crying with her and after one night of it, it worked. It took 20 mins in total and we have had 12 hours of a sleeping toddler every night since.
I know many people are against Controlled Crying as a technique to get babies to sleep and I understand all the reasons and arguments against it , for us it really was a last resort and I'm am glad we finally did it.
We we're really spoilt when BG was younger, she dropped her night feeds at 9 weeks and starting sleeping 7 to 7, it was heaven. We felt slightly smug, other friends we knew were desperately trying to sleep train their children and BG did it all by her self. All was perfect until she was about 6 months and she started teething, then she became ill, her sleep routine was ruined and it has taken almost 9 months to get it back on track.
It wasn't just a case of BG waking up in the night and having to get her back to sleep and back into her cot. Once she was awake she wouldn't settle and go back into her cot, every-time she fell asleep she would wake as yiu laid her back down, so it became easier to take her down stairs and sleep on the sofa with her. BG wouldn't sleep in our bed with us.
It was mainly OH that would get up with her, I am really deep sleeper and once she dropped those night feeds I barely hear her cry (we already know I'm an evil mummy) so OH would get up.
It then become easier to leave her sleep on the sofa at night and not even try and put her in the cot, OH would sleep on the floor next to her, she would wake up at 4am and crawl down for cuddle.
I know it sounds completely mental but it worked and we all kinda got some sleep. However after 9 months of this, it was taking a toll on me and OH mentally, physically and for me emotionally. I missed sharing my bed with him and evenings had become quite strained.
We had allowed BG to get to such a bad routine at home and it was starting to tear us apart. I must also pint out that when BG slept at her nan's she slept through the whole night, it was only at home that she didn't
So 4 weeks ago after BG had spent the night at her Nana's, we put her to bed when she fell asleep at 7pm, she woke at 9pm. OH went up, laid her down, told her it was time to bed and we left her for 5 mins and yes she did scream, he went back up did the same again and we left her 10 mins, he went up a 3rd time and within 5 mins of him coming back down she was asleep and she slept until 7.30 the next day.
BG now sleeps through the night, we only had to do it once. Its starting to make a huge difference in out life, me and OH are spending quality time together and BG wakes up in a great mood. We go in and get her, she picks up Pooh bear, gives us a kiss and is ready to start the day. The last month has defiantly been good for us.
I'm not saying this is for everyone, it was a last resort for us and something I'm glad we have now done.
Its amazing what sleep can do for your family (though I have to get used to OH snoring again)

Haircuts, Bumps & Bruises and The Soundtrack To My Week
Last Friday I had my hair cut, short, very short!
This is me before....
Ignore the double chin!!
At the weekend I had a house full, for the first in a long time I got to cook for my family. My sister, her OH and my 13 year old cousin who was over from Ireland came to stay.
We stuffed ourselves silly on Easter Sunday so on the Monday we took a walk to the park where BG managed to trip and bang her head and nose. She had two bumps on her head and a graze on her nose, she now looks like I've been beating her!
My sister and her OH went back Monday and left my 13 year old cousin here with us. She didn't quite realise how *fun* it is to have a toddler running around, she made the fatal mistake of trying to play on her laptop while BG was awake, BG wanted to help her by closing the top down and pressing the buttons, what a helpful child *snigger*
Tuesday was a lovely day so we went to the seaside and went to the sea life centre, which was loved by all. BG likes the really ugly and dangerous fishes, she saw the Piranha's and went "ahh", any thing with teeth she liked!
We took a walk along the beach and BG collected a stone to take home, do you want to see it?......
A good day was had by all, especially as we hot, freshly made doughnuts on the way home.
Me and BG had the house back to ourselves yesterday, so we had the afternoon in the garden, where she tripped hit her head and nose again!! and gave her self a nose bleed. Hugs and chocolate made it better.
It was a lovely Easter for us, BG only got one small egg from me and OH and the rest of the family bought presents or gave us money for her next term of Musical Mini's (yes I am a mean mummy)
So this brings me to the soundtrack of the week, I had a good think about it and choose this..........
We Are Family by Sister Sledge
Enjoy!!

Scream
We had the tired scream, the unhappy scream, the pick me up scream, the put me down scream, the hungry scream and the happy scream.
I have a splitting headache and I'm hoping that tomorrow she learns a new form of communication!!
Right off to take more painkillers for this headache

Musical Mini's and our First Swing!

No Fear
She's forever bumping her head or hurting something, but she doesn't care, has a quick cry, a hug from mummy and she's back trying to climb the patio door!
Yesterday she climbed out of her cot! Yes my nearly 9 month old baby climbed out of her cot. I heard a big thump then the biggest scream, but after a kiss and a cuddle she was ready to jump of my lap and try her luck with the outside of the cot!
We have now dropped the base to the very lowest it will go and keep our fingers crossed she can't get out now! Didn't stop her trying last night the little minx! But I was prepared for her, I laid pillows and our spare duvet on the floor so if she had managed it at least she's had a soft landing!
Must dash she's trying to climb up her highchair now!

The Sneaky Switcharoo
One minute she loves something, two days later she doesn't like it! Its making feeding times a right nightmare and with her not drinking a lot of milk it worries me slightly
Now its not all food she's gone off, fruit and yogurt she will lap up, so its not that she isn't hungry its just she doesn't want to eat the savoury food!
Me and OH have devised a sneaky way of getting her to eat the savoury dinners, we call it the sneaky switcharoo!!
Basically we try her with dinner if she won't eat it we start feeding her the sweet pudding the sneak a spoon of savoury in before she realises!! and it works, sometime you can get 3 spoonfuls in before she realises its not fruit or yogurt!!
We also coat her porridge in yogurt to get her to eat when she decides she doesn't want it! We put some porridge (which already has fruit in it!) on the spoon then dip in the yogurt so she doesn't realise its porridge!!
Sneaky? Yes, Works? Yes!
Hey we already know I'm an evil mummy!!
If you have any other advice to help with a fussy baby please let me know!

The Great Train Journey And Other Adventures Part 2
So in part 1 I told you about my disastrous train journey with BG, well the rest of the week didn't get a lot better!
OK so that's a little bit of an exaggeration as it was not all bad, Saturday was a rather nice day. My dad came to visit us, he had been to South Africa on the British Lions tour and came back laden with gifts (mainly for BG). BG has two more rugby kits, one in green and one in blue! We went for a lovely walk in town and then had some lunch, the weather stayed nice for us! The only thing that marred the day was my back was killing me, I thought it was due to all of the running around in the rain the day before little did I know it was the start of something nasty!!
When I woke up Sunday morning my back was killing me, OH had left me to have a lay in but I was in so much pain I had to get up. Once I was up I quickly realised that I had a kidney infection (Needed to pee 3 times in 30 mins!) I suffer with them quite a lot so know the signs, needless to say I felt like crap. BG was feeling to good either, very grumpy, off her food and drink, I thought she was teething. OH had to go to work which left a poorly me with a grumpy baby, oh joy!!
The only good thing to come out of Sunday was to find I had made it into the Tots 100 list! (sorry if I don't toot my own horn no one else will!!)
Monday wasn't much better and by Tuesday BG had a slight temp and I felt really poorly (If you follower me on Twitter you would have witnesses my whinging!)
On Wednesday BG seemed much better but I had a temp, a splitting headache, earache and a stuffed up nose! Can you see where I'm going with this?? I then find out that my GD who we spent Friday with had suspected Swine Flu!!!!!
So after a huge panic and discussion with OH we decided that BG was fine but I could have it. I couldn't get through to NHS direct and my doctors was closed so decided to ring in the morning.
I rang first thing and spoke to the triage nurse that told me it could be Swine flu, it could be flu or it could also just be a kidney infection and had the doctor call me. The doctor confirmed that I had UTI and also a upper respiratory infection that could or could not be Swine flu (the only way to confirm would be a swab). He offered me Tamiflu as my symptoms were borderline severe, though informed me all it does it reduce the length of time I have the symptoms. I asked if I could have antibiotics for the UTI and he she yes, so I sent OH to get them.
I did speak to him about BG and he wasn't concerned as she no longer had a temp, he said she probably had a mild bug and passed it onto me!! Thanks BG
Friday I still felt ill but not as bad and was looking forward to my lay in on Saturday as OH was off. Well the lay in never happened, all I could hear was BG screaming and OH trying to keep her quite!
So up gets mummy, thankfully I was feeling much better. Typical I have a day to be lazy and get OH to run around after me and I'm better, though my kidneys were still tender.
My last payslip and P45 turned up! I am officially unemployed! Anyway moving on.
We had a 1st birthday party to go to, so after some umming and ahhhing and looking at when I would be infectious to others we decided to go. I'm so glad we did, had a lovely time, BG got to be with other children in the sun and fresh air. The weather stayed nice all day, which was good as it was a BBQ!!
BG wore her Sophie4Sophie dress, which got a lot of comments, you can see why! Plus she had her matching lunch box

The birthday cake was fantastic, I want one made for BG's birthday!

And then it was Sunday again!! In which again I did nothing!! So that was my eventful 8 days, I really don't want a week like that again !

Decisions Have Been Made!!!
However I have decided to stop worrying myself as I'm making myself ill! I'm not sleeping and I'm getting stress headaches!
I won't be unemployed I will be a Stay at home mummy! I will keep looking for part time work (though to be honest its slim pickings at the mo), I have applied for some jobs just waiting to hear back.
Ideally I would like to be a WAHM and I'm working on some projects including making things from home and plan to have some stock for Christmas to sell (I'm hoping I'm being realistic). Once I have some things made I will show you all and probably send a few things out to be tested!
OH has said that he will help more with BG especially when he is off so I can work on things
I have also decided that I will only do reviews once a month I don't want to take away from what this blog is really about, mine and BG's journey!
Money will be tight but that's fine I have been skint before I know how to budget, Aldi and Lidl are my new best friends!!! Lol
On a happier note BG has started to call me mum!!! She's not just saying its randomly!!! So her first official word is mum!!! Good girl BG
Also her toothy pegs have finally come through!!! Well at the bottom just got the rest of the to go!
Ok off to plan, look for a job and have loads of snuggles with my baby!!

My Clever Little Bug
BG spent about 20 mins this morning trying to get her blue fish, she rolled, streaked and shuffled and every time she got hold of it she managed to push it further away
She then realised that if she pulled the play rug that was underneath her her blue fish would come to her!!!
And that's what she did pulled it towards it grabbed it rolled on her back and stuck it on her gob!! My clever little bug!
I wonder what she will do tomorrow??

What's Your Favourite.......
BG favourite is “She’ll be coming round the mountain”!!!
I have no idea why on that fateful day when she was crying and wouldn’t stop why I started to sing that song ! It wasn’t a favourite of mine as a child, it wasn’t one we sung a lot , I didn’t even realise I knew all the words!!
However I started singing it and she stopped crying and started smiling!!
This song is now used in many situations, to calm baby down, it stops her crying, stops her screaming, makes her giggles it evens sends her to sleep!!
We of course sing other songs but we always come to back to “She’ll be coming round the mountain”
Sometimes she needs an extra long version so me and OH make up verses, such as
“Oh we’ll all go to the park when she comes”
Or
“We’ll all eat butternut squash when she comes”
Anyway I was wondering what songs do you like the best?
What works for you?

This Weeks New
When I think back to the day she was born and look at us now I've realised how far we have come!
BG has found her feet! and grabs them constantly. The other day she pulled off her sock and then tried to eat them it was so funny!
So also learned a new sound this week, its a wonderful growl!! She mainly chooses to do it when we are out which of course gets us lots of funny looks, which she loves!! She just turns on her big grin and charms them all.
BG also had her 3rd lot of jabs yesterday, which means she's a grump at the moment even a trip to the park couldn't cheer her up!
On that note must go BG is having a whinge!!
Have a good weekend and enjoy the sunshine!

She's been lying on her side for weeks looking like she was going to roll on her front then she would just fall back on to her back.
I'm so very proud and excited, its another first which are just so precious.
All day to day she's just been rolling and rolling like she's been doing it for ages its so cute!
I wonder what he next first will be?

I've Felt Like This Before.....
Me and BG went to baby and toddler group on Friday as usual, this group is quite new only been going a few months and I have been there from the very first day. Now even though its quite new cliques have formed quite quickly including the wannabe Yummy Mummy’s and I’m not one of them!
Anyway this week the group was taken over my Musical Mini’s I’m sure you can guess what’s involved. Me and BG had a great time, she really likes music and me singing so it was right up our alley. BG may be the youngest in the group but I’m sure she had the most fun!
Now these Wannabe Yummy Mummy’s are all designer gear and no substance, they obviously come to have a gossip and let the kids run around , which is fair play . Well they were not happy that they had to get involved , when we all sat around on the floor with our children ready for the first activity they all had faces like bulldogs licking piss off a thistle!! I however found this quite amusing!!
The problem I have with these women is that they are just not friendly, BG is the youngest there most of the time and the toddlers like to come and look at the baby which I don’t mind, their mum’s are normally right behind them to make sure they are not to rough. Now one of the reasons I don’t mind as it normally gives me a chance to chat to the other mums, these Wannabe’s don’t even smile back they just grab their kids and turn away!!! They are just so rude!! I am obviously not good enough to talk too or even warrant a smile. It just reminds me of being at school and not being one of the popular girls, I’m half expecting them to start pointing and laughing because I don’t have the right changing bag!
Seriously its like being a teenager again and god knows that wasn’t fun the first time round! I’m an intelligent woman, I have a degree for f***ks sake why do I let this get to me?? I think its because I thought as adults things would have changed and it wouldn’t matter what you wore or where you lived. That making friends would be easier but I was wrong!
I will however carry on going, I’m starting to make friends and BG seems to enjoy it and will carry on smiling and saying hello to the Wannabes because I’m a friendly person and I would hate them to feel the way I do.

Beauty Routine????
My old routine would take me at least 20 mins, my new routine takes 5 mins. I have recently had my hair cut short and highlighted which helps make my routine shorter. I bet your wondering how do highlights make my routine shorter well I shall tell you.
I am naturally blonde but I have had my hair dark for the last 5 years, being a natural blonde means that I am pale and have light eyebrows which means I require more makeup to look alive and need to fill my eyebrows in to match my hair, so lighten my hair means I need less makeup, hence less time.
My old routine:-
Cleanse
Tone
Moisturise
Foundation
Eyebrows (wax first then powder)
Eye shadow
Mascara
Blusher
Lip gloss
Straighten all hair
New routine:-
Wipe face with 4 in 1 face wipe
Dust face with mineral powder
Mascara
Vaseline on lips (stopped using lip gloss everyday as I kiss BG a lot)
Run brush through hair (Run hair straightner over top of hair if have time)
Not only do I save time and money with my new routine but I’ve realised I don’t actually have to wear so much makeup to look good!
As we are talking pampering a extra little story for you. Monday night OH came home a huge Champneys gift set for me (which is lush) when I asked him (in a nice tone) what he had bought it for he replied “it was reduced” not the answer I was looking for!!! Lol

Just Another Manic Monday
Well I thought my weekend was busy, my Monday was non-stop and its all my own fault!!!
I decided yesterday that instead of staggering my housework across the week as I had been doing and feeling that I never stop I would do the majority of it on a Monday giving me the rest of the week to spend playing with Baby girl. I finally finished and sat down at 8.30 last night!!
This is what I achieved:-
1. Cleaned kitchen
2. Threw out old kitchen ware
3. Emptied fridge of out of date food (not much)
4. Cleaned living room
5. Hoovered stairs
6. Cleaned bathroom
7. Cleaned bedrooms put away washing from weekend
8. 3 loads of washing, dried and folded ready to be put away
9. Swept front yard
10. Organised coupons
11. Shredded paperwork that was no longer needed
12. Emptied all bins put out ready for collection
13. Washed and sterilised Baby Girls bottles
14. Prepped Dinner
15. Changed Baby Girl and Mummy 3 times as Baby Girl was sick over both of us
15. Wrote a blog post
16. Tried to get tickets for Reading Festival
17. Finalised online shopping from Sainsbury’s that is coming tonight
18. Planned meals for the rest of the work
19. Wrote a list of what we need for our holiday
20. Collapsed!!
So today I don’t have to anything!!! Right?
Except the washing up needs doing and I could run the hoover over the living room…
Someone stop me, please!!!

Where Has The Weekend Gone???
My weekend started on Friday, one of my best friends came over with her daughter (she is 7 weeks younger then my Baby Girl (trying to stop calling her BFB) ) We went to the local baby and toddler group, played with the babies, talked to the other mum's, dranks coffee. Then we walked into town and had lunch, we got home about 2ish ,I then had to get dinner ready for the evening, prep BG bottles. I had done the housework in morning, by the time I got BG to bed I was shattered, it was only 7pm.
Saturday my Dad came to visit, so again we went to lunch, walked around town. I had to entertain him all afternoon (OH was at work) again by the time BG went to bed I was ready for mine.
Then came Sunday when the glorious clocks go forward an hour!!! OH had to work late night so we had the morning together, then he went off to work and I had BG all day and had to do the night time routine by myself. Because the clocks went forward so she didn't go to bed until 8, I then had to cook my dinner by the time OH got home at 9 I was ready to collaspe!!
And now its Monday again, where did my lazy weekend go???
If anyone finds it can they please send it back I miss it!

Its Time To Turn Off The Baby Monitor!!!
Now baby sleeps in her own room, I know the say have the baby in your room until they are 6 months old. However we couldn't fit the cot into our room so once she grow out of her Moses basket she was moved into her own room. We have the baby monitor on in our room so we can hear her and hear her we can!!
Baby is a very noisy sleeper, she snores, grunts and groans and keeps us up all night as we wake up at every noise, then if we don't hear her we panic, hence we are not getting a good night sleep.
So we have made a decision to turn off the monitor while we are in bed, we will still be able to hear her if she cry's. We have a small house and her room is right next to us, sometimes its like living in stereo and you hear her through the wall and then through the monitor.
Our house is so small it doesn't have a landing up stairs just a La! You walk up the stairs and see 3 doors in front of you, baby's room, our room, bathroom!
Tonight is the night we are going to turn off the monitor and try to get a full nights sleep!! If baby can then we can, can't we?

Why I'm Looking Forward To This Years Mothers Day
10 years ago my mother and her husband at the time (she's on number 4) walked out on me and siblings leaving us homeless. My mother decided that her marriage was more important to her then her children I have not seen or spoken to her since. Hence Mother's day has not been filled will joy for me, just a reminder that my Mother didn't love me enough to stay.
So this year I get to celebrate that I am a Mummy to my fantastic daughter and finally have a happy Mother's day.
Happy Mothers Day

My Baby Free Day
This started with a nice lay in, when I got up BFB was fed, the housework was nearly done. OH then made me breakfast after which I had a bath. I then got to straighten my hair and put on some makeup bliss!! I looked like myself pre baby (apart from the mummy tummy)
Then it was time to leave the house (wasn't as easy as I thought, heart strings pulling). I walked in town which takes about 10 Min's and had a stroll around the shops looking at things for BFB!! I then went and joined the library were I proceeded to take out four books, all for BFB (can you see a pattern here) I lasted about an hour before ringing home to make sure everything was OK.
I went to my favourite cafe for lunch, its really cozy like an old fashioned tea room. I had a jacket potato, two lattes and a slice of homemade Victoria sponge (yum) I read a non-baby magazine and then I was bored. I finished off some jobs in town then went home (walking very quickly)
When I got home BFB gave me the biggest smile and giggle. Even though it was nice to have some me time It was even better to get back to my baby!!!
