My 5 Current Pet Peeves on Twitter

I love Twitter I really do, but sometimes certain things really get my goat. My time line gets filled up with useless tweets and I get sent pointless DM's which make me want to unfollow people.

Here are my 5 current pet peeves.

1. Auto DM's

I really, really hate auto DM's saying thanks for the follow. Either take the time to @ me or just don't bother to say hello, I won't be offended.

2. Retweet's of your own competition entries.

What I mean by that is, when someone enters your comp because you made it part of the entry requirement and then you RT the entry. Don't it fills my time line with crap. I'm not sure why you feel the need to do it but please stop or I will unfollow.

3. Comments from Disqus

Every time someone leaves a comment on a post it tweets it, why??? Please turn it off!!

4. True Twit Validation

If you want to vet your followers protect your account, I'm not going to prove myself worthy.

5.  Daily Astrology Tweets

This is one of those daily twitter services that people sign up for.
If you want to know your stars for the day look it up in the paper or online don't subject me to it.

They are my pet peeves, what are yours?

  1. Agree with ALL of these! But I would also add follow friday when it's just a list of EVERYONE they follow! *shoots self*!

  2. In exactly the same wave length here! Hate hate hate auto DM, that shouldn't even be allowed!

  3. My pet peeve is the sponsored tweets that appear at the top of the stream. Twitter is for talking, keep the spam sales pitches out of it!

  4. Oh yes *nods vigorously*...especially the auto DM thing and the Tru Twit. Both mean an instant unfollow and block from me! Not keen on follow friday either as it has become a bit meaningless when it's just a long, long list and when people RT their FFs NO - Don't do it!

  5. The daily astrology ones!!! SO ANNOYING when people get this and RT it for their followers to see!

  6. Retweeting when you've been #ff! What is this point?

  7. Agree with all of your top five, plus people begging for followers.

For auto DM haters (i.e. everyone), try opting out of Social Oomph - it virtually eliminates the problem. http://twitter.com/#!/optmeout

  8. Agreeing here, too. The auto DMs are so shit, I think that should be stopped to be honest. I don't follow someone on Twitter so they'll follow me. One of my pet peeves is when I do follow friday of tweeters I've chatted with and find someone I don't know or follow RT's the FF. WHY? What's the point in that?

  9. I so agree with no.2 I follow someone that seems to RT everything that is said to them. Why?!

I also follow someone that fills my Friday timeline with #ff for everyone on twitter (well that appears to be the case!)

Now I'm asking myself why i follow these people?!!

  10. Yes to all of them except the Disqus one. It is a choice to tweet it out - you have to physically tick a box. I do it sometimes to promote a post/comment that I think will be of interest to other people.

  11. I have just started using Twitter and I can honestly say that I just don't get it! I use facebook and have used other networking sites so I'm not a technophobe or anything but I can't seem to get to grips with it at all.

  12. Agree with all five. I'm not a huge fan of #ff and don't do it. I unfollow anyone who says 'hun' or details their child's potty training (ugh) and I detest the lists of who has unfollowed people. Who cares?

  13. Okay, I had no idea those DMs thanking for following were auto! I've even replied to a few *blush*. All true and also the FFs, they also make me feel inadequate for not really doing it. What really gets me is the automated tweets churned out 10 at a time. And followees that do not interact at all... unfollowing a few of those.

  14. A great list! Although I like the odd blog comment tweeted I must say.

I've had some weird DMs lately. Things like "I'd like to get to know you" which I'm not a fan of. It's a bit undie-sniffer for me.

  15. I hate don't like the tweet validation service too. When someone has that I don't go through the validation and so don't follow them - it shouldn't be there.
